iCapture: Bringing Back Jesus’ Moments

“Go into the world and preach the good news of salvation.” (Mark 16:15)

Everything changes in the split of a second. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why we are in Youth for Christ Communications (YCOM). The very core purpose of our calling is to experience, capture, and share Jesus’ moments so that it echoes throughout eternity. Specific dates will be forgotten, people will get tired of retelling stories, memories will vanish like a bubble, but a document’s voice will never fail.  It will forever speak of God’s greatness and power.

This was the gist of the recently-held,”iCapture” documentation workshop (August 28, 2011) at the CFC Center in Cubao.

The event consisted of three sessions which individually tackled photography, videography, and writing. Workshops were delivered in the form of talks, wherein the speakers discussed, not only the technical side of their subject matter, but the pastoral side as well.

Kevin Muico, YCOM Manila Think Tank member, provided the participants with a list of all the camera settings as well as strategies for the various situations that can be anticipated during YFC activities.  He also shared how photography molded him as a servant and how the participants can respond to God’s call through their own talents.

“Our creative journey is a continuous one. Take time to understand the reason behind that talent. If you experience God through your calling, hold on to that craft!”

Glen Lopez, another YCOM Manila Think Tank member offered inspiration to the YFC documentation teams present, as he delivered the second talk: “I am fulfilling my mission with my passion”.

The session spoke of the importance and advantages of videography in capturing Jesus’ moments. He shared tips and tactics for shooting YFC events, which he learned from his own experience in documenting in past years.

Katrina Martin, YCOM Mission Volunteer, delivered the last session, which focused on writing. She said that it just take a little PUSH to document YFC events through writing.

“P stands for presence of body mind and heart; U for understanding the message and specific points; S for skills; and H for heart for the message and the medium.”

She also spoke about the power of the written word to spark a Christian revolution and to light the hearts of many or even just one, which was why it was important that all three aspects of documentation be present during major YFC activities.

After the session-workshops, the participants were given a chance to ask questions during the open forum, to help them better apply the strategies offered in their upcoming sector conferences.

The iCapture workshop ended with a praisefest, as YCOM Mission Volunteer Lex Alinsod challenged the participants to jump to another level in evangelizing the youth through their photos, videos, and written work.

Toni Krizia Vivares is the YFC Web correspondent in Laguna.
