PYC Laguna kicks off!
True to the objective of uniting young people through God’s love, Youth for Christ from the eight sectors of Laguna attended the Provincial Youth Conference, “Radiance: Let your faith shine” last July 31, 2011 at Sta. Cruz Elementary School, Sta. Cruz, Laguna.
In the morning, Holy Mass was presided by Fr. Rico de Luna. After that, Louie Manrique from East B led the opening worship. Participants were then summoned to rise for the singing of the national anthem.
Cesar Cas, couple coordinator from the East, hailed the participants in his opening remarks, emphasizing his deepest desire to see the radiance in the life of every Yfc.
“Gusto kong makita yung radiance sa inyo. Yung light through your good deeds.”
Oca Roman, a couple coordinator from the same sector, also greeted the participants through his welcoming remarks, after which Jaypee Ramoso of Central 2 headed the oath of sportsmanship.
After the opening ceremonies, various sports competitions, namely chess, basketball, badminton, Frisbee, volleyball, soccer, patintero, beat the record, amazing race, and Chinese garter, were held simultaneously at the venue. By 11 a.m. creative competitions such as, show choir, duet, band, gag, rap, duo dance, crew battle began. Listed also as part of creatives are mural, photography and basura ink. Four teams strove for different titles: the big west (west 1 and west 2), big central (central 1 and central 2), East A (East 1 and East 4) and East B (East 2 and East 3)
In the late afternoon, Bryan Cabrera of Central 2 led the opening worship for the sessions. After the worship, the crowd cheered as Alvin Morada, YFC full time pastoral worker, took his place on stage to give the first talk entitled “Salt”. The youth actively responded as he forcefully affirmed, “Walang bumabagsak na Youth for Christ! Dahil ang YFC, nag-aaral nang mabuti! Dapat pumasa ako. Hindi lang pasa, dapat mataas ang grades ko!” Morada also shared his vision for the community. “Pangarap kong dumating yung araw na lahat ng hindi YFC, gustong mag-YFC. Dahil ang YFC nag-aaral nang mabuti. Dahil ito yung natutunan nila dito!”
The young people also showed interest when he talked about God’s gift of love. The speaker reminded the crowd, “Kung Yfc ka, marunong kang mag hintay. Irerespeto mo yung sister, at kung talagang mahal mo, idadaan mo sa magulang. Huwag mong sabihing kulang ka sa pagmamahal, dahil una kang minahal ng Diyos! Hindi mo pwedeng sabihing mag-isa ka dahil una ka niyang binantayan.”
Goi Villegas, YFC full time pastoral worker and Metro Manila head delivered the second talk: Radiance. He gave the participants time to reflect as he facilitated a prayer session. He spoke about the light every youth can share to the world, as God becomes visible in every area of their lives.
“Tatayo tayo sa labas ng community na YFC tayo! Wherever I go, I always make sure that people will see that I have a great God!” he said.
His talk ended as the Provincial Youth Heads, Macko Villancio and Ebbe Grace Bargais, shared the light of the candles to the sector heads. The sector heads, in turn, shared this light to their members. The visible light serves as the actual representation of their faith that glows in the dark night.
Villancio then led the closing worship as he said, “Brothers and sisters, let’s turn off the lights of our candles and be that light, as we worship our God”.
The PYC ended as the winners of different competitions was announced, and victory was claimed for the participants, all of whom had experience God through another moving conference.
